The owner of a Belmullet based car dealership has stressed the need for an NCT centre in his area.

Michael Conroy, of Michael Conroy Motors, posted to social media earlier this week, asking people if they would be in support of an NCT centre for the Erris region – to which over 1,000 people showed support.

He says that the Barony of Erris is bigger than County Louth, yet Louth has two NCT centres.

Mr. Conroy says that his business sold roughly 200 cars last year, and he estimates that the cost of bringing these cars to nearby NCT centres in Castlebar and Ballina, as well as paying staff to do so, cost the company over €30,000.

He says that the building in which the company operates in Belmullet was built by Paddy Doocey back in 1999, with the purpose of becoming an NCT centre.

The NCT is celebrating 25 years of operation in Ireland this year.
