Dozens of people are ‘Braving The Drop’ today, as they abseil from the top of Croke Park, in aid of Mayo Cancer Support.
To date this lunchtime in excess of 280,000 euro has been raised and that figure is rising, as the event takes place at GAA HQ in Dublin this afternoon.
All funds raised will go to the Mayo Cancer Support Association at Rock Rose House in Castlebar.
Midwest Sports Editor Michael D. McAndrew bravely took on the challenge, alongside sports analyst Martin Carney, Mayo manager Andy Moran, household names like John Maughan and Alan Dillon, together with many cancer survivors and service users of Rock Rose House and a large number of Mayo GAA club members.
Mayo Cancer Support is the official charity sponsor of Mayo GAA this year.
Michael D has already managed to conquer the challenge and un-phased immediately went into reporter mode, and spoke to Orla Gillespie of Rock Rose House and then two of the delighted service users that have also met the challenge successfully.
He began by asking Orla about the success of the fund raising effort so far…
Rosa Meehan, a service user of Rock Rose House had just dropped and was delighted to speak to Michael D about the feeling of accomplishment…
While Gabrielle Clesham, another service user of Rock Rose House, was overwhelmed with the response of people in her community to her fund raising challenge…
