The Consultant Psychiatrist role in the E-Mental Health Hub in Castlerea – vacant since it opened in 2020 is now not being filled due to the current recruitment embargo in the HSE.
The Manager of Mental Health Services in the County confirmed this to Sinn Féin TD for Roscommon/Galway Claire Kerrane, who has repeatedly highlighted the lack of staffing in the Hub, at a meeting last week.
Deputy Kerrane says the Hub opened in 2020 and while, Covid certainly had an impact initially, she uncovered after numerous questions to the HSE that they didn’t fund the staffing of the Hub.
Almost immediately on raising this in the Dáil, Deputy Kerrane says funding was provided for staffing however, the Consultant Psychiatrist role wasn’t filled.
Now it cannot be filled due to the recruitment embargo imposed by Government.
