The Galway fishery has temporarily closed from this morning because of the weather.
The fishery, located in Galway city, has been closed by Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) because of high water temperatures.
It says because of rising water temperatures, angling has been suspended in Galway city, while there are warnings the Moy, Erriff, Cloongee and Ballyvarry fisheries may close in the coming days due to warming waters at those sites.
The IFI say it will re-open closed fisheries when it records two successive readings of less than 18 degrees Celsius in the water.
Barry fox, the IFI’s head of operations said “IFI officers will continue to monitor temperatures in the coming days to assess the impact this current hot spell is having on the welfare of native fish species.”
Anglers whose bookings have been affected by the closure will be contacted by IFI staff. As well as this, anglers using the ‘catch-and-release’ method are advised to limit the fish’s time exposed to air, especially in such hot conditions.
