The number of gun attacks is now so low, the figure doesn’t register in official data for last year.
The HSE says because the number of people injured in “gun assaults” was five or lower, it won’t give a specific figure, in order to protect the privacy of those treated.
It means cases are down more than 90% on the 2005 peak of 59, according to the Irish Times.
The data doesn’t include those accidentally wounded in incidents with legally-held guns, or people who died after being shot in attacks.
