Gardai will be out in force on the roads this bank holiday weekend.
A road safety operation is underway, which will see checkpoints around the country.
In the last five years, 16 people have been killed and 78 others seriously injured on the roads on the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.
Chief Superintendent for Roads Policing, Jane Humphries, says some driver behaviours have deteriorated in recent years:
