This St Patrick’s Bank Holiday weekend, motorists are being urged to plan ahead and never drive under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.

Gardai will be carrying out an enhanced roads policing enforcement campaign from 7am today (Thurs)  to 7am on Wednesday 18th March.

With thousands of people expected to take part in parades, events and celebrations across the region in the run up to Saint Patrick’s Day, road users are being urged to make safe travel plans in advance.

Anyone intending to socialise and drink alcohol is advised to leave the car at home and organise a safe way home.

The Garda Roads Policing Operation is targeting drink and drug driving as well as speed and inappropriate phone use.

This year to date, 32 people have tragically lost their lives in fatal road traffic collisions in Ireland.
