Pope Leo the 14th says he wants to help the world move away from worshiping materialism.
The 276th leader of the Catholic church was speaking following his appointment to the position yesterday.
Fr Tony Finn is a priest now based in Galway and a friend of the new pontiff.
He spent some time living in Rome at the same time as Pope Leo.
He says he is a very kind man and is confident he will visit Ireland in the near future.
Fr Finn has been speaking to Midwest Radio’s Alannah Nolan…
It follows serious wildfires on Sunday that caused extensive damage to the area.
