€90,000 has been announced in funding for path maintenance and management at Croagh Patrick in 2026.
The announcement was made today by Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht and Fianna Fáil TD for Mayo Dara Calleary.
Today’s announcement follows on from previous repair works which were completed in April 2024 to combat significant damage to the path caused by the more than 50,000 visitors every year.
€42,000 of funding for path maintenance and management at Croagh Patrick is set to come directly from Minister Calleary’s department to maintain and manage the restored path.
The rest of the funding will be drawn from Croagh Patrick Stakeholder Forum, which is contributing €35,000, and €13,000 from Mayo County Council.
The allocation forms part of “Embracing Ireland’s Outdoors”, Ireland’s national outdoor recreation strategy which aims to develop and manage outdoor resources in a sustainable manner.
Speaking following the announcement, Minster Calleary said; “The restored path on Croagh Patrick took years of pain-staking work to complete, most of it done by hand, but that was just the first step.
“We want to make sure,” he continued, “that the benefit of that work is not lost. This maintenance work will continue to ensure that the path is managed in a sustainable way.”
