The Department of Education has granted funding for a large extension to Sumerhill College on the outskirts of Sligo Town.
This news has been confirmed by local Fine Gael TD Frank Feighan, who has welcomed the announcement under the Additional Accommodation Scheme.
The extension to Summerhill comprises of four mainstream classrooms, a Pastoral Office, two Science Labs and Prep Area, one Wood Technology Room and Prep Area, and two Special Education rooms Base & Ancillary.
Deputy Feighan stated:
“This is a significant investment in the future of education in Sligo and will allow the school to accommodate more pupils alongside the provision of much better facilities especially for children with special needs.
“In the case of Mercy College Sligo, the existing pre-fabs will be replaced, which I am sure teachers, BOM and parents will warmly welcome.”
