Fuel industry warns of fresh protests over September price hikes

The fuel industry is warning that planned increases in fuel prices next month could lead to a return of protests.

Fuels for Ireland is calling on the Government to pause a planned increase in excise duty on fuel from September.

The organisation says the increase could see the price of diesel rise above two euro a litre.

Parts of the country were brought to a standstill by protests in April over rapidly rising fuel costs.

The CEO of Fuels for Ireland, Kevin McPartlan, says he does not want to see a repeat of those scenes.
