Four new special classes granted for Mayo schools

The National Council for Special Education has granted four new special classes for schools across Mayo.

This has been announced by Minister of State Alan Dillon, following confirmation from Fine Gael party colleague, Minister for Education, Helen McEntee.

Swinford National School and Scoil Phádraig in Westport have been granted an extra classroom each for those with Autism/ Autism Spectrum Disorders, while two classes has been granted for Ballyvary Central NS, Castlebar.

209 new special classes have been sanctioned for the 2025/26 school year across the country, according to Minister Dillon.

He stated that the allocation of these four additional special needs classes in Mayo is a “testament to our commitment to inclusive education”.
