Local independent councilor Richard Finn has welcomed the arrival of McDonald’s in Claremorris, describing the decision by the major international company to locate in the town as a significant vote of confidence in the area.
In his submission to Mayo County Council, he said the town could not afford to miss what he described as a “once in a lifetime opportunity” to encourage more visitors and investment.
Mayo County Council has now granted planning permission for the new drive-thru, subject to a number of conditions.
The planning application had attracted concerns from some residents over traffic, noise, parking and the potential impact on existing local businesses.
