Fianna Fail simply “left it too late”, when it came to selecting a Presidential Candidate in the race for the Aras. That’s according to former Minister and Fianna Fail Deputy Leader Éamon Ó Cuív.
The Galway-West man was commenting after Jim Gavin confirmed he was exiting the Presidential campaign, after admitting he “made a mistake” when it emerged he allegedly owes a former tenant over 3,000 euro.
Although Mr. Gavin’s name will remain on the ballot, the contest is now a two-horse race between Fine Gael’s Heather Humphreys, and Independent Catherine Connolly.
Mr. Ó Cuív believes Fianna Fail had a large enough talent pool of its own to select a candidate from within the party, and that someone who was involved in politics should hold what is a “political office”.
