The family of a 14 year old girl who died while at an Irish college last summer in County Galway are calling for an independent review into her care from Children’s Health Ireland (CHI).

Last week, after waiting months for answers, the family of Amelia Belle Ferguson received a response from CHI, but say that they have more questions about their daughter’s care.

Amelia’s parents, Zuzi Mangan and Brian Ferguson, her sister Poppy, and many friends and supporters joined in a protest last week outside the Department of Health, seeking more transparency and scrutiny of the care she received, and the information CHI shared with them in the final months of her life.

Amelia died after collapsing while out on a walk during her time at the Galway college last summer.

According to the Irish Times, Ms. Mangan said that she does not want an inquest into her daughter’s death, but a specific external review of how the case was handled by CHI.
