Mayo Day 2025

Mayo County Council  has announced the details for Mayo Day 2025, Mayo Day is the celebration of Mayo pride, culture, and community spirit that will resonate across the globe on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025.

This year’s theme for Mayo Day is “Many Places, Many People.”

Building on the success of previous years, Mayo Day 2025 will feature a new format this year, with a range of community-led events taking place locally, and internationally, ensuring that everyone, no matter where they are, can participate in the festivities.

Some of Mayo Day highlights include

  • The Grand Finale Concertin the TF Royal Theatre, Castlebar: This will be the highlight of the Mayo Day celebrations and will be a spectacular that feature a diverse lineup of talented Mayo artists, including renowned singer Tommy Fleming, the harmonious Glor na Roba Choir, Garron Noone, Mick Mulhern, The Kilkenny’s and many more special guests expected.
  • The Big Day on the Mall: The Mall in Castlebar isa youth music festival being produced by Music Generation Mayo celebrating youth music making within the County of Mayo and will showcase approximately 150 young musicians on the main stage.
  • Mayo Day at North Mayo Heritage Centre: This will be a immersive demonstration of traditional and sustainable crafts by local artists, using locally produced and responsibly sourced materials. The crafts which will be demonstrated include woodworking, jewellery-making, wool spinning and candle-making.
  • Blas Mhaigh Eo – A Tasting Session of Mayo Trad Music in Swinford:  This music talk and listening session presented by the renowned musician and broadcaster Joe Byrne. Dive into 35 years of field recordings of Mayo traditional music.
  • Mayo Day at Ballina Arts Centre: you can immerse yourself in creativity with workshops, guided tours, and captivating music performances throughout the day at the Ballina Arts Centre.
  • Mayo Day in Ballycroy (Ballycroy Visitor Centre): Experience the natural beauty and unique heritage of Ballycroy National Park with special events and activities at the Visitor Centre.
  • The Keening: Wonders of the Irish Wake (Mulranny Arts Centre): Explore the cultural significance and traditions surrounding the Irish wake at this thought-provoking event in Mulranny.
  • Mayo Day at Ballinglen Arts Foundation (Ballycastle): Celebrate the arts with the opening of a new exhibition by artist Alice Austin at the prestigious Ballinglen Arts Foundation.
  • Daring Dames – From Pirate Queen to Pioneering Doctor: in Belleek Castle, Ballina, where you can delve into the fascinating stories of remarkable Mayo women, from the legendary Pirate Queen Grace O’Malley to pioneering figures, at this engaging event held at the historic Belleek Castle.
  • Mixie’s Bog – Documentary Screening: Showcasing in Aras Inis Gluaire in Belmullet this documentary follows Mixie who has been cutting turn by hand the traditional way in north Mayo for over 60 years.
