Mayo Deputy Rose Conway Walsh has been appointed to the role of Chairperson for the Defence and National Security Oireacthas Committee.
She is one of seven women appointed as Chairs of Oireachtas Committees.
Galway TD and Sinn Féin party colleague Mairead Farrell will chair the Oireachtas Finance Committee, while Westport based Keira Keogh is Chairperson of the Children and Equality Committee.
Despite these appointments, women only make up a quarter of the 28 leadership positions on Committees in the 34th Dáil.
Women for Election says the number of women appointed to these roles falls short of tackling gender imbalance.
