The lack of enforcement of the new speeding limits imposed on local roads is not acceptable, according to Crossmolina based Fianna Fail councillor Michael Loftus.
He is again questioning the number of gardai in Mayo available to enforce the new controversial 60 km speed limits, that have replaced many 80 km limit routes.
The councillor insists that the failure of the government to replace, the now abolished, Joint Policing Committees (JPCs) is resulting in a breakdown in communication between local gardai and the local community trying to deal with a range of crimes.
At the February monthly Meeting of Mayo County Council, councillor Loftus again sought clarification on when the proposed new Local Community Safety Partnership, to replace JPC’s, will actually be up and running.
However, details on how these new partnerships are to operate remain sketchy.
