Elder home-owners could be helped to downsize in a bid to beat the housing crisis.
Banks and credit unions may be asked to ease their rules for people who don’t qualify for a mortgage, but want to move to a smaller home while their old house is sold.
Planning rules for ‘granny flats’ may also be relaxed, as the Government moves to free up housing stock.
However, in an interview for the Sunday Independent, Minister for Older People, Kieran O’Donnell, says any downsizing moves would be ‘entirely voluntary’.
