The trolley crisis at Mayo University Hospital is “unsafe”, according to Castlebar Independent councillor Harry Barrett.
According to the INMO Trolley Watch figures today there were 32 patients on trolleys waiting for admission to the hospital earlier today.
Councillor Barrett says relatives of patients have contacted him today and over recent days, to say this situation is unsafe. “They are seeing their loved ones left for hours on trolleys, sometimes in pain and distress, waiting for a bed and proper medical care”.
Medical research, he says, shows that delays like this can have deadly consequences.
The cllr is calling on both Ministers based in Mayo to step in immediately and to raise this directly with the Minister for Health, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill. “These are unsafe conditions and they need urgent action”.
