€500,000 allocated for Castlerea river walk

Over €1 million has been allocated to four projects across County Roscommon under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme.

The investments were announced yesterday by Minister for Rural & Community Development & the Gaeltacht, Mayo Fianna Fáil TD Dara Calleary, which saw €1.2 million also go to Mayo.

The installation of the pontoon at Cavetown Lake, restoration and enhancement works at Moate Park Amenity Area, and enhancements to the Suck Valley Way (a project that the late cllr Anthony Waldron long advocated for), will all receive funding boosts.

€500,000 has been allocated to Castlerea, to reconnect the town with its natural waterfront, the River Francis.

Local councillor Paschal Fitzmaurice says that this project will be a “game changer” for Castlerea,  and will be of great benefit to people who may not be able to access the river through the current pathway.
