E-scooters will need tax, insurance and a licence

E-scooter users will have to have a licence, pay tax and get insurance under new proposals agreed today.

The Government is also extending a ban on e-scooter use from all under 16s to anyone under 18 years of age from next month.

Helmets and high vis jackets will also be mandatory.

Ministers say a total ban on e-scooters is still being kept on the table.

Junior Transport Minister, and Galway-East Deputy Sean Canney says e-scooters will be treated the same as all other mechanically propelled vehicles from later this year:
