The Road Safety Authority is asking driving testers to put in more overtime to help cut the test backlog.
The average wait time for a test has already dropped from 27 weeks to 22 – with plans to bring it down to 10 by September.
The body has hired more examiners and it will also open more centres.
Brendan Walsh from the RSA, says they’re training more classes of testers at the same time to help get them out quicker.
The Belmullet based Fianna Fáil cllr is expected to be elected on Friday.
