That’s according to Roscommon /Galway deputy Michael Fitzmaurice.

The Independent Ireland TD has called for urgent answers from the Minister for Social Protection Dara Calleary regarding the abrupt cessation of the scheme last week, without any notice,  and the” hit and miss” way that applicants this week appear to be either securing some funding under the scheme while other have had their applications totally rejected.

Deputy Fitzmaurice has been informed that an email was allegedly dispatched from the Department of Social Protection to all its offices last Friday, instructing staff to destroy all remaining blank application forms for the HAS and to cease the scheme immediately.

This sudden termination, he claims, has raised significant concerns, particularly for residents in this region who have experienced severe devastation due to the storm.

Deputy Fitzmaurice has been speaking to Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley about the devastation for many who have had their application for assistance rejected…..
