In the Dail yesterday, Aontu TD in Mayo, Paul Lawless raised his concerns about an accommodation centre in Ballinrobe, which he described as a “half way house” for people recently released from Irish prisons.
He argues that there are inadequate supports in place in the South Mayo town to assist the residents of the facility.
In addition he claims there is increasing concern locally about the rising level of crime and anti social incidents in the Ballinrobe area.
Deputy Lawless says that Mayo county council is no longer using the Ballinrobe centre for emergency accommodation but claims Roscommon county council are using it, and he called on Roscommon County Council to immediately cease from using this facility as emergency accommodation.
