The number of offences recorded at Garda Stations in Mayo was lower in 2024 than it was in the pre-pandemic year of 2019.
Figures obtained by the Irish Independent show that there were 2,868 reported crime incidents at Mayo Garda Stations, which is 254 more than last year’s figure of 2,614.
Of the 29 Garda Stations in Mayo, 15 saw decreases in the 2019 – 2024 figures, while 14 saw increases.
The greatest increase was found at Ballina Garda Station, which went from 472 reports in 2019 to 512 in 2024. The majority of reports to Ballina last year were in relation to theft (118), public order incidents (113) and criminal damage (84).
Ballinrobe and Ballyhaunis again saw over 100 reports at each station in 2024, while Swinford’s total went from 83 to 112.
Despite having the most amount of reports of crime in 2024, Castlebar Garda Station also saw the greatest decrease, with the 737 crimes last year being 172 less than the 909 in 2019.
Large decreases were also found in Westport (down 103) and Claremorris (down 78).
Categorically, the greatest amount of crimes reported to a Garda Station in the county last year were thefts in Castlebar, of which there were 201.
