The Dáil has voted down a Sinn Féin bill seeking to prepare for Irish unity.
The legislation would have triggered the establishment of a Citizens’ Assembly on the topic and required the Taoiseach to produce a Green Paper examining the implications of constitutional change within 18 months.
With the government opposing the bill, it was voted down by 79 votes to 69.
