Ireland is aiming to host an influential meeting of European leaders next year.
While the Dáil row over speaking time is set to heat up again today.
Next year Ireland holds the rotating EU Presidency and a memo going to Cabinet this morning will detail the significant preparation underway.
That includes the Government’s hope to host a meeting of the European Political Community.
That group was set up after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and features the EU member states along with the UK, Ukraine, Turkey and Norway among countries who take part.
Domestically though the Dáil speaking time row is set to raise its head again ahead of a meeting of the Dáil reform committee tomorrow.
Opposition leaders are outraged at planned changes to procedures which would give Michael Lowry’s regional independent group access to speaking time and questions to the Taoiseach.
While backbench Government TDs say they have little to no speaking time as it is.
Opposition whips will meet this afternoon to co-ordinate their plans of attack.
