Plans to redevelop a service station at the site of the Creeslough explosion have been refused by An Coimisiun Pleanála.

Donegal County Council previously granted permission to Vivo Shell Limited to redevelop the site and include a shop, post office, fuel pumps and a memorial garden.

However, those proposals were appealed to the planning board by bereaved family members.

An Coimisiun Pleanála overturned Donegal County Council’s decision, saying the development would be out of character with its surroundings, and raising safety concerns with the proposed memorial, due to potential significant pedestrian movement.
