Councillor seeks answers on Castlebar odour

There has been no response from Irish Water or the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to questions from Castlebar Municipal District management over the cause of an odour that sometimes emanates from the Waste Water Treatment Plant located on the Turlough Road in Castlebar.

That was confirmed to Fine Gael councillor Ger Deere by management at the monthly meeting of the District.

The councillor has been raising the issue at District level for months now.

However, Independent cllr Harry Barrett said that he had recently been informed by the EPA that a major issue with the heating system at the plant had occurred and was resolved in February of this year, suggesting that the odour issue is now resolved.

But cllr Deere is not convinved as he says the odour has been a problem since last summer. The cllr told Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley he will continue to seek direct answers on the matter from council management:
