The search for 38 year old Mayo native George Brennan has been stood down.

Mr. Brennan, originally from Claremorris, had last been seen on April 2 in Ballycastle, Co. Antrim and was not heard of from friends or family since.

Police in the north assisted an Garda Síochána throughout the search, during which extensive work was carried out at the area between Ballycastle and Fairhead.

A updated appeal was made on Saturday, specifically in relation to a blue backpack which Mr. Brennan was seen carrying in Ballycastle.

Following the discovery of a body at Fair Head, the search for Mr. Brennan was stood down on Sunday morning.

Claremorris councillor Richard Finn has paid tribute this lunchtime:

Mr. Brennan’s funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
