A local councillor has called for Mayo County Council to change the current procurement process and revert back to the pre-2010 model.
Sinn Féin cllr Gerry Murray shared his concerns with today’s system at the most recent meeting of the Claremorris/ Swinford Municipal District.
“What happens now”, according to cllr Murray, “is that every single job has to go to tender, which means the system is gridlocked. The engineers are tearing out their hair”.
He added that there are certain jobs that can be done by the council’s outdoor staff, 40% cheaper than what it is costing to outsource the work with private contractors.
Cllr Murray wants the council to go back to the previous process, instead of “having to jump through the hoops every single time, for every small job.”
