Mayo Councillors have recently passed the local authority’s new Anti-Social Behaviour Strategy.
It seeks to address anti-social behaviour among council tenants and “the community as a whole”.
The strategy sets out processes to deal with complaints through a multi-agency approach, including possible referral to Gardaí.
Mayo County Council will also now have the power, in cases of proven recurrent anti-social behaviour, to evict tenants.
Fine Gael Councillor for Ballina Marie-Thérèse Duffy argued at the council’s meeting that domestic violence should be included under the scope of the strategy, but it was not adopted.
