Council management questioned over staffing levels

A motion of no confidence in Mayo County Council’s Chief Executive may be expressed if demands by Castlebar councillors are not met.

At the most recent meeting of the Castlebar Municipal District, cllr Harry Barrett produced figures of staffing levels in each district in the county.

This showed that Castlebar MD’s staffing figure is 57, which is 30 behind that of Ballina, while there are over 100 staff for each of the Westport/ Belmullet and Claremorris/ Swinford districts.

Cathaoirleach of the Castlebar MD Donna Sheridan is writing to Mayo County Council’s Chief Executive Kevin Kelly seeking an increase in staff before the next district meeting.

If this demand is not met, then cllrs will express a motion of no confidence in the Chief Executive and council management.
