ARROWTRAIN

Tomorrow  (Sat) will see the first visit of a train in the old orange ‘Arrow’ colours to County Galway in nearly 20 years. Voluntary-group and railway heritage promoter Táilte Tours CLG have organised the  trip, “The Eyre Lee Bird railtour”,  from Cork to Galway via Limerick,  will use a 1994 vintage railcar set.

It was restored to original ‘Arrow’ livery by Iarnród Éireann last year. These days it’s normally only used in the Cork area, but the voluntary group has hired the train for the day, which will arrive in Athenry station at 12:22 and pause for a few minutes before heading on to Ceannt station Galway for a 12:48 arrival. The tour group will then go for lunch before heading back to Cork from Galway at 14:33, again pausing at Athenry for a few minutes at 14:50. The train will also pause at Gort station for 10 minutes at 15:16.

Tailte Tours Co-founder & Marketing Officer Niall Kelly says they’re always looking for new ways to promote railway heritage across Ireland. Galway has long been on our ‘wish list’ of destinations and we’re delighted to get the opportunity to bring this classic railcar back to Galway for a day via the scenic Western Rail Corridor.
