A Claremorris man has officially been recognised by Guinness World Records after completing an extraordinary barefoot journey from Istanbul to Ireland.

Eamonn Keaveney walked more than 6,800 kilometres across Europe over almost a year, raising more than €21,000 for charity along the way.

He set off from Istanbul on March 4th, 2025, and travelled barefoot through nine countries before completing his journey in his native Claremorris in early March this year.

In total, Eamonn covered 6,805 kilometres on foot — almost twice the previous Guinness World Records distance of 3,409 kilometres.

His challenge has raised more than €21,000 for Jigsaw, which supports young people’s mental health, and Friends of the Earth Ireland.

The achievement has now been officially recognised by Guinness World Records, adding another milestone to Eamonn’s remarkable journey.
