Children with measles confirmed in Galway

An investigation is underway into confirmed cases of measles disease in County Galway.

The Department of Public Health HSE West and North West is investigating the case.

Public health was notified of the cases in mid-May, which concerns children.

Close contacts area being identified and advised by the Public Health team.

People who have developed symptoms, or if their children have, are being urged to stay at home and phone your General Practitioner for advice.

Measles symptoms include a temperature of 38 degrees Celsius or above; cold-like symptoms like a runny nose, sneezing or coughing; sore red eyes; a rash, which usually appears on the head or neck at first and spreads to the rest of the body; vomiting, diarrhoea and tummy pain may also happen.
