A Castlerea based business has decided to close its doors after 26 years serving the community.

Market Fresh fruit and veg shop, ran by Roscommon Cathaoirleach Paschal Fitzmaurice will close its doors for the final time on Saturday next.

In a statement, he says,

After 26 wonderful years in business, I have made the decision to close the doors of Market Fresh. I know this news will come as a shock to many, but after much deliberation, I am making the decision to close the shop as it has become increasingly difficult to survive as a small business in an already overcrowded market.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to my many loyal customers and friends for your unwavering support, kindness and loyalty over the last 26 years. You have been the heart of this business and the reason why I enjoyed going to work every day. I certainly will miss the daily chats and interactions with you all in the shop.

While it is bittersweet to say goodbye, I look forward to the next chapter in life. I want to assure you all that I will remain a very visible presence in our community and will continue to work tirelessly for you all as a Public Representative.

Thanks to the loyal staff who have worked with me over the years and a special mention to my wife Ann and our children Ella and Sean for their support and help during our time in business.

Market Fresh will close officially on Saturday 1st March so I look forward to meeting you all over the next two weeks. Thanks again, Paschal.
