A Sligo councillor has called for a state funded service that would allow people to carry out a free history check on cars they are looking to buy.
Councillor Dara Mulvey says at present, if you wish to buy a second hand car and want to look at the history of it, you have to pay for it online.
He says that buying a car, regardless of the age is a significant investment for a household, and people should be able to have full confidence in a vehicle they are buying.
He is to table to motion at the next monthly meeting of Sligo County Council.
Councillor Mulvey has been speaking to Midwest Radio’s Alannah Nolan….
