A Sligo councillor has called for the immediate progress on the Collooney to Bellaghy greenway.
It comes following the release of the Government Infrastructure Priorities, which sees the exclusion of double tracking between Mullingar and Maynooth, which Councillor Marie Casserly says is a crucial link to improving rail connectivity to the west.
Additionally there is no mention of the extension of the rail line north of Claremorris.
Councillor Casserly says that progress should now be made on the greenway from Bellaghy up to Collooney, which would then connect to the SLNCR greenway stretching as far as Enniskillen in Co Fermanagh.
The location of the greenway would also see higher demand for Ireland West Airport which she says could be used as a ‘gateway’ for the greenway.
Councillor Casserly has been given more details to Midwest Radio’s Alannah Nolan….
