A motion will be debated at today’s meeting of Mayo County Council which calls on Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly to attend the local authority’s subsequent meeting.
It is being tabled by Councillor Michael Loftus, who wants the commissioner to address a number of points, including why none of the recent 194 Garda graduates were assigned to the Mayo, Roscommon, Longford Division.
The Fianna Fáil Councillor for Ballina also wants Commissioner Kelly to consider the possibility of reinstating a Chief Superintendent for the Mayo Division.
