Call for clarity on Insurance inconsistencies

A local MEP has called on the new Consumer Commissioner Michael McGrath to address the inconsistencies in insurance premiums across the EU.

Ciaran Mullooly spoke of one particular case of a young man seeking insurance here on a 2020 Volkswagen Golf who would be charged over €4,500 for insurance in Ireland. However if the same insurance policy was taken out in Belgium, it would only cost €1,212.

MEP Mullooly says that for young drivers they are being priced out of the market here.

He has called on the newly appointed Consumer Commissioner to speak to insurance companies here, to find out why the cost of taking out an insurance premium is in some cases more than triple that of a policy in other European countries.
