The diocese of Galway has confirmed the removal of Bishop Eamon Casey’s remains from its cathedral crypt.
In a statement this morning it says the remains are now with Eamon Casey’s family.
It says his family wish that his final resting place remains private – and they’ve asked for their desire for privacy to be respected.
The statement did not confirm when the remains were removed the crypt.
This follows on from last July, when the Diocese of Galway, Kilmacduagh and Kilfenora issued a statement noting that “the continued resting of the mortal remains of Bishop Eamonn Casey in the crypt of the Cathedral of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven and St Nicholas, Galway was a deeply felt matter that affected many people in different ways.”
