A local councillor has brought forward a motion for any trees within a 25 metre radius of critical infrastructure, such as power and phone lines, to be cut.
Cllr Alma Gallagher brought forward the motion at the recent meeting of the Claremorris Swinford Municipal District, where she received unanimous support.
The Fine Gael cllr says that if this had been in place before Storm Éowyn, we wouldn’t have suffered as bad with power outages, as most issues arose where trees had fallen on lines.
