Ballintubber based, Castlerea councillor, Michael Holland has hit out at what he terms the “unacceptable” overcrowding on trains, serving county Roscommon

The councillor says he recently used the Westport train to travel from Castlerea  at 10.48am to Dublin and found that it was already full by the time it reached Castlerea.

He was travelling on Friday, November 28th last.

There were only three carriages on the train and the 20 passengers that got on in Castlerea were left standing in the train’s corridors all the way to Dublin. Additional passengers boarded in Roscommon and Athlone and they were faced with similar travelling conditions.

Cllr Holland has been telling Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley more about the experience….
