Ballina is now eligible for an affordable housing scheme.
That news has been confirmed by Mayo based Senator Mark Duffy who says this comes after much campaigning lobbying and a KPMG report which analysed the market needs.
Senator Duffy says the eligibility for a scheme like this means that a new generation of people locked out of the market will have an opportunity to buy their home a discounted price.
It comes after the breaking of ground on multiple housing projects in Ballina with 120 homes due to get under way in the coming months.
Senator Duffy has been giving more details to Midwest News.
