The Atlantic Technological University has been granted approval for a major land purchase to extend its ATU Sligo campus.
At a special visit to Sligo today, Minister for Further & Higher Education James Lawless, along with local Minister of State Marian Harkin, announced the approval.
The ATU has confirmed that it will fund the purchase of the 16.35 acres of land, currently owned by Sligo County Council, from within its own existing reserves.
Sligo Leitrim Minister Marian Harkin stated that this news will help in “increasing educational opportunities in the region while also allowing the Technological University to be a driver for economic and social development”.
ATU is one of the largest multi-campus universities in the country, with nine campuses across Sligo, Mayo, Galway and Donegal.
