A Castlebar jeweller was pleasantly surprised when he received 20 euro and an apology card from a rugby fan, days after the historical Connacht vs Munster clash in Hastings Insurance McHale Park GAA Grounds at the end of last month.

Peter Sheridan said the gesture restored his faith in humanity and felt the deed deserved to be made public.

Peter who owns ‘Rings and Things ‘ on Main Street in the county town opened his shop on the Monday morning after the match  to discover someone had got sick on his doorway.

He said he did the usual, and cleaned it up,  and didn’t think too much about it, but on the following day he received an anonymous card with a note of apology

The note, written by the culprit’s friend, explains what happened  – stating –  ‘He is really embarrassed and asked me to drop you a note and this little token.”

It was signed ‘Proud rugby fan Connacht’.

With no name to go on Peter had no way of tracing the sender so instead sent a note of thanks to Jimmy Staunton the President of Connacht Rugby outlining what had occurred and concluded, “It restores my faith in humanity and particularly in Connacht rugby fans.”

Peter has been speaking to Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley about what happened…
