Thankfully, there were no fatalities reported following road traffic collisions during the 24 hour period.

Members of an Garda Síochána, along with GoSafe Mobile and Static Safety Cameras, detected a total of 800 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.

The highest speed detected was 164 km/h in a 120 km/h zone.

Locally, a motorist was detected driving at a speed of 73 km/h in a 60 km/h zone in the Ballaghaderreen area.

This National Slow Down Day was the first since the reduced speed limit was introduced for rural and local roads.
