653 admitted patients are on trolleys in hospitals nationally this morning.
The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation say 363 are in emergency departments, while 290 are in wards elsewhere.
University Hospital Galway has the second highest figures in the country with 73 patients on trolleys.
Sligo University Hospital has 55 patients on trolleys while there are 25 in Mayo University Hospital.
The role is now worth €60,112 a year.
